Redlands Unified Updates Masking Policy

Beginning tomorrow, February 16, adults will no longer be required to wear a mask indoors at Redlands Unified School District public spaces if they are fully vaccinated (not including booster) and students are not present indoors.

Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, will still be required to wear a mask when students are present indoors. Both students and adults will continue to wear masks indoors, as stated in the CDPH Guidance for K-12 Schools. Masking outdoors will remain optional.

Also, beginning on February 16, the District will allow meetings and student gatherings like assemblies that have more than 10 people to be held in-person, while implementing social distancing to the best extent possible.

Many masking advocates were pleasantly surprised that the masking guidance will remain relatively strict, simply returning to the requirements prior to December 15 amidst the Omicron surge.

Despite the fact that the update loosens restrictions, several parents and residents on the Redlands Buzz Facebook group decried the "muzzling" of children with "bacteria filled face diapers."

The update follows one from Safe Redlands Schools, who received a donation of 10,000 KN95 masks and will deliver them to the district to distribute to the high school and middle schools.

Between January 31 and February 14, RUSD reported 225 new cases of Covid-19, affecting 1.02% of the district.
